It is said that before the arrival of Jesus, holly berries were always white. When holly was used to make the crown of thorns, for the crucifixion of Jesus, his blood colored the berries red. A color they keep to this day. Traditionally represented in wreaths and garlands, and now a Painted Pony, red and green holly branches symbolize the colors of Christmas.
